Proposals on Public Service Pay
Update 22nd March 2024

Dear Member,

Proposals on Public Service Pay

The ballot in relation to Public Service Pay Proposals concluded this week and INMO members have accepted the proposals by a strong majority. Nurses and midwives will have their pay agreed for the next 30 months, unless of course there is a repeat of the extraordinary increase in inflation we saw over the last 18 months. Members should be assured if there are any additional pressures on the cost of living that unions are able to go back to the table to negotiate with the Government. It was clear during the balloting period that INMO members saw the benefit of their membership firsthand by returning a strong endorsement of the trade union-negotiated proposals.

Over the next 30 months (January 2024 – June 2026), basic pay will increase by 9.25%. The structure of these proposals also includes a local bargaining clause, which will allow for claims that arise in the next 30 months to be pursued and dealt with during the lifetime of the agreement. Salary increases will be made on a periodic basis through a combination of flat-rate payments and/or percentage increases. The details include:

2024
• A general round increase in annualised basic salary for all public servants of 2.25% or €1,125, whichever is greater, on 1 January 2024.
• A general round increase in annualised basic salary for all public servants of 1% on 1 June 2024.
• A general round increase in annualised basic salary for all public servants of 1% or €500, whichever is greater, on 1 October 2024.

2025
• A general round increase in annualised basic salary for all public servants of 2% or €1,000, whichever is greater, on 1 March 2025.
• A general round increase in annualised basic salary for all public servants of 1% on 1 August 2025.

2026
• A general round increase in annualised basic salary for all public servants of 1% or €500, whichever is greater, on 1 February 2026.
• A general round increase in annualised basic salary for all public servants of 1% on 1 June 2026.

Local Bargaining
• A local bargaining instalment, equivalent to 1% of the basic pay cost, on 1 September 2025.

Once the results of the ballot have been ratified by the ICTU Public Services Committee, the INMO will write to the HSE immediately to confirm that pay increases will be made urgently.

INMO Member Survey 2024

We have launched our annual online survey, and we are urging members to take the time to complete this important questionnaire. The survey is designed to explore the experiences of nurses and midwives working in various healthcare settings across Ireland, and the information will be used to inform the INMO strategy for supporting and representing nurses and midwives.

The overall results will be published to highlight key issues facing your professions and will contribute to the professions' understanding of workplace conditions, stress, exhaustion, and its impact on nurses and midwives.

The survey is anonymous and is designed so information cannot be attributed to any individual. It will take approximately 9 minutes to complete.  Click here to complete the survey INMO Member Survey 2024

Pictures for International Days of the Nurse and Midwife

Two very important days of the year are soon coming around and once again, we are asking members to send us photos of themselves and their colleagues to help us celebrate you and your professions. In scrubs or other workwear, in groups, teams or individually, we want to see the smiling faces of nurses and midwives in all areas of the health service.

We will promote our members’ photos on social media and in the World of Irish Nursing and Midwifery, as well as most importantly, on May 5th (International Day of the Midwife) and May 12th (International Nurses’ Day) and at our Annual Delegate Conference.

As always please make sure anyone visible in your photos has given permission to have their photo submitted, and send all photos to lisa.moyles@inmo.ie by Friday 26th of April.

Kind regards,

Phil Ni Sheaghdha
General Secretary
